About NIMDS

About North Island Mood Disorders Society!

North Island Mood Disorders Society is a mental health support and advocacy group for people suffering from depression, bipolar and anxiety disorders.

North Island Mood Disorders meetings temporarily suspended!
Unfortunately, the weekly support group meetings of the North Island Mood Disorders support group have been temporarily suspended due to a lack of attendance at our temporary 4pm meeting time at the BC Schizophrenia Society at 850E 12th Ave in Campbell River. It is hoped, if sufficient people show interest, that these support groups will be restarted in November on Thursdays evenings at 7pm. Our apologies to all would have benefited from these groups. Hope to see you all in November. Please let us know if you are interested in being part of this renewed group in November by emailing .

About our Thursday mood disorders meetings!

Who: North Island Mood Disorders Society is a local support group for people suffering from depression, bipolar and anxiety.

What: Our support group serves all members of the mental health community suffering from chronic depression, bipolar disorder, chronic anxiety, panic disorders, cyclothymic disorder (a less severe form of bipolar), dysthymic disorders (a less severe form of chronic depression) and other related mood disorders.

Where: We are currently meeting at at the Campbell River BC Schizophrenia Society at 850E 12th Ave in Campbell River. This will now be our regular meeting site as we have recently given up our office space with Volunteer CR.

When: Every Thursday at 7 pm.

Why: Why are mood disorders so important? The numbers are staggering!

25% of Canadians will suffer a significant episode of depression during their lives.
8% of Canadians are struggling with depression at any given time, often combined with other major illnesses, such as cancer or substance abuse.
18% of the population suffers from chronic anxiety.
It is often suggested that only 1% suffer from Bipolar Disorder. However, using better diagnostic tools, recent US surveys suggest that 3% is a more accurate estimate.
Suicide accounts for 24% of deaths among 15-24 year olds and 16% among 25-44 year olds.
